Choose this one if

  • Your shoulders will not tolerate a straight-bar back squat
  • You want a mild camber rather than the swing of a deep one
  • You want the highest capacity of the specialty squat bars here

The detail

A buffalo bar is the mildest of the shoulder-friendly squat bars, and that is its argument. The 4.75-inch drop rotates your hands forward and down relative to a straight bar, which opens the shoulder enough for most people to hold the bar comfortably — without the load swinging the way it does on a deep camber bar like the Titan Rackable Camber Bar at 18 inches or the Fringe Longhorn at 3.75 inches of drop with the sleeves further out.

If a straight-bar squat hurts your shoulders or elbows and you do not want the extra instability of a full camber bar, this is the one to look at. It squats like a barbell that fits you better.

Fifteen hundred pounds is the highest capacity of the specialty bars covered here, well above the 1,000 lb on the Titan camber bar and the SS4 safety squat bar class of product. The 32 mm shaft is what supports that.

The centre knurl is correct and expected: a curved squat bar spends its life on your back, and there is no bench-press use case to compromise for.

Two things to check. At 88.1 inches it is one and a half inches over a standard bar — measure your rack's upright clearance. And the 13.75-inch loadable sleeve is on the short side for a bar you will load to squat weights, so plan on thin iron rather than bumpers.

Bushings and ball bearings in the sleeve assembly is an unusual combination for a squat bar, where rotation matters little — it does mean the sleeves will not bind under an uneven load.

Black zinc on the shaft is the weak point: the least durable common finish.
