Choose this one if

  • The blocky shape of a PowerBlock is what has stopped you buying an adjustable
  • You want to change weight by twisting the handle rather than moving a pin
  • You want to start at 50 lb and expand later rather than buy the full range now

The detail

The NÜOBELL exists because of how a PowerBlock feels. A PowerBlock is a squared cage with the handle inside it; a NÜOBELL is a round-plated dumbbell with the handle through the middle, so curls, flyes and anything else that rotates around your hand behave the way you expect. If that is what has stopped you buying an adjustable set, this is the answer, and the shape is genuinely the whole reason to pick it.

Adjustment is a twist of the handle in the cradle rather than a pin. It is fast and it is satisfying, and it has one consequence worth knowing: the mechanism only engages while the dumbbell is seated in its cradle, so the cradles are not optional storage — they are part of the product, and they need a permanent spot on the floor.

Steel plates and a 32 mm chrome handle with medium knurl put the handle in the same size class as a barbell, which is a reasonable feel for pressing and a little thick for anyone with small hands doing high-rep curls.

The two-year warranty is the number to weigh. It is the shortest on this site — the PowerBlock is five years, and most racks and bars carry lifetime frame coverage. Dial-adjustable dumbbells have more moving parts than pin-selected ones and get dropped, which is exactly the combination where warranty length matters.

The 5–50 and 5–80 lb versions are separate purchases, with an expansion kit sold separately to take a 50 up to 80. Work out which you will actually need before buying, because upgrading later costs more than starting there.
