Choose this one if

  • You own a fixed dumbbell set and it currently lives on the floor
  • You want a rack rated to hold a full set with margin
  • You want 8-gauge beams rather than the thin shelving most racks use

The detail

Eight-gauge steel in the beams is heavier than the 11-gauge used in most racks' uprights, and that is the right place to put the material. A dumbbell rack's beams carry the entire load in bending across their span; the tubing just holds them up. Bells of Steel has specified 8-gauge for the beams and 11 for the tubing, which is the correct way round and unusual at this level.

The 1,000 lb capacity is what that buys. A full 5 to 50 lb pair set is roughly 550 lb; a 5 to 75 set is over 1,000. Check your set's total against the rating rather than assuming, because a dumbbell rack failing is a genuinely dangerous event with iron falling at shin height.

At 51 by 22 inches and 34.5 high this is a substantial piece of furniture, and the 47 by 10 inch tray gives you a useful amount of usable shelf per tier. Dumbbells stored on a rack are dumbbells you use; dumbbells on the floor are a trip hazard you step over.

Seventy-four pounds empty means it stays where you put it — which is fine, because a loaded dumbbell rack was never going to move anyway. Rubber feet are included, which protects both the floor and the rack's own finish.

Limited lifetime on the frame and welds is the appropriate warranty for a welded steel rack with no moving parts.

If your dumbbells are adjustable rather than fixed — a PowerBlock or an Ironmaster set — this is more rack than you need and the manufacturer's own stand is the better buy.
