Choose this one if

  • You want one machine to replace a rack, a cable tower and a smith machine
  • You train alone and want the smith and cables as a spotter substitute
  • You have a permanent 79 by 67 inch footprint and are not moving house soon

The detail

At 1,455 lb assembled and 79 by 67 inches on the floor, the G20 is not equipment you fit into a garage — it is equipment you plan a garage around. That is the first and largest thing to settle, well before any feature comparison.

What you get for it is genuine breadth. A four-post rack, a smith machine, and a cable system in one frame means the movements that normally need a functional trainer plus a rack plus a bench happen in one station. For someone training alone, the smith and the cables also work as a partial substitute for a spotter, which is a real safety argument rather than a convenience one.

Read the pulley ratio before you judge the weight stack. At 2:1, loading 100 lb gives 50 lb of resistance at the handle. That is normal for this style of machine and it is not a trick — but it means the plate weight you hang is double what you are actually moving, and comparisons against a 1:1 machine are meaningless unless you account for it.

The 6.2 mm cable tested to 2,000 lb is the spec that matters for longevity. Cables are the wear item on any pulley machine, and an aircraft-grade cable at that rating is well past what the stack can ask of it.

The two upgrade paths both cost floor space, and they cost a lot of it. The swing arm adds 60 inches of depth in use, and the lat row station takes the overall footprint to 75 by 95 inches. Budget the space before the money — this is the machine people buy and then discover they cannot open the garage door.
