Choose this one if

  • You want a lifetime warranty on plates you intend to drop
  • You want published plate widths so you can plan your loadable sleeve
  • You want virgin rubber rather than crumb or recycled

The detail

Publishing the width of every plate is unusually useful and almost nobody does it. Plate width is what determines whether your bar's loadable sleeve holds what you need: at 2.3 inches a 45 lb bumper means a 16-inch sleeve takes six per side, and the arithmetic only works if the manufacturer tells you the number. Fringe does, for all six sizes.

Virgin rubber with a lifetime warranty is the substantive claim. Virgin rubber does not shed, crumble or lose shape the way recycled crumb does — compare the Bells of Steel crumb plates at 90 days on the small sizes. A lifetime warranty across the range, including the 10s, is Fringe underwriting the material rather than hedging on the plates most likely to fail.

The harder durometer on the small plates — 90 sHA against 85 on the 25 and up — is a design response to exactly that failure mode. A small bumper has less rubber around the insert, so making it harder resists the deformation that splits it. Combined with a stainless insert, it is a serious attempt at the hardest problem in the category.

At 450 mm the plates match the IWF standard diameter, so the bar sits at the right height off the floor. The 10 lb is 445 mm — five millimetres smaller — which is normal and means it should not be the only plate on the bar.

The 50.4 mm insert slides onto any Olympic sleeve without fighting; 1% tolerance is good and consistent across the range.

Compare the Savage colour plates, which are the same construction with colour and a 50.3 mm insert.
