Choose this one if
- You squat, bench and press rather than clean and snatch
- You want Cerakote corrosion resistance on a stiff bar
- You want moderate-aggressive knurl without a centre knurl commitment
The detail
Low spin and light whip is an unusual pair on a 28.5 mm bar, and it defines what this is for. Most 28.5 mm bars are tuned to be do-everything; this one is tuned to stay still. Under a squat or a press, a stiff bar with slow sleeves goes where you put it. Under a clean, low spin means the bar tries to rotate your wrists rather than turning under them.
So: a pressing and squatting bar, not an Olympic one. Fringe's own Austin Bar is the moderate-spin, moderate-whip all-rounder if you want both.
Moderate-aggressive knurl is the useful middle — grippier than the medium volcano on the Austin, short of the skin-removing knurl on a dedicated power bar like the Texas Power Bar.
A 1,500 lb capacity and a 16-inch loadable sleeve are both the good standard. Sixteen inches is roughly five bumpers per side.
Cerakote is the finish worth paying for in a garage — it resists corrosion and abrasion far better than zinc and does not wear through the way thin decorative chrome does. The gold titanium-plated sleeves are cosmetic and hard-wearing; titanium plating is genuinely durable rather than just decorative.
Aerospace-grade bushings need no maintenance and tolerate chalk and grit.
Fringe does not publish a tensile strength figure for this bar, which is the main gap — it is the number that tells you what the steel is, independent of the capacity rating. Ask before comparing it against a 190,000 PSI bar.
At 86 inches it is standard length and will rack normally.
