Choose this one if

  • You want welded heads rather than bolted ones
  • You want fixed dumbbells and the wall space for them
  • The dumbbells live somewhere you would rather did not smell of rubber

The detail

Welded heads is the specification to check on any hex dumbbell, and Giant states it explicitly: the handle is welded where it meets the cast iron core. A bolted head works loose over time — you notice it as a rattle, then a wobble, and eventually it comes off in your hand at the top of a press. A welded joint cannot do that.

Low-odour rubber is a real consideration and almost nobody addresses it. New rubber dumbbells smell, and in a spare room, a basement or an apartment that smell takes weeks to fade. If the dumbbells live somewhere other people spend time, it matters more than any spec on the sheet.

The handle step from 28 mm to 34 mm at 15 lb matches the Bells of Steel Ergo exactly. Thin handles suit light dumbbells where a fat grip feels clumsy; thicker handles spread load once the weight strains your fingers. Fifteen pounds is a sensible transition point.

Contoured handles swell slightly in the middle to fill the palm, which spreads load and reduces pinch on a heavy dumbbell. Whether you prefer it is personal — some find contoured grips fight their hand position on rows.

Sold by the pair as well as in sets, which is the right way to buy fixed dumbbells: you populate the weights you actually use rather than a full ladder.

Giant does not publish a weight range, a tolerance or a warranty term on this listing. The handle spec implies 5 to 100 lb; tolerance and warranty are worth asking for, since ±3% is typical for moulded rubber heads and it is the number that decides whether a pair matches.
