Choose this one if
- You want dumbbells that live in a cupboard rather than on the floor
- Your dumbbell work is accessories, rehab and conditioning rather than heavy pressing
- You want an eight-weight range without eight pairs of dumbbells
The detail
At 12 by 5.75 by 5.5 inches this is small enough to store in a cupboard, in a wardrobe, or under a desk — which for a lot of people is the difference between owning adjustable dumbbells and not having room for them. The Pro 100 EXP is 19 inches long and lives on the floor.
The range decides who this is for. Four to 32 lb covers lateral raises, curls, rows for most people, rear delt work, rehab and conditioning circuits. It does not cover heavy dumbbell pressing or heavy rows, and it will not grow — this is not an expandable model like the EXP line, so 32 lb is the ceiling permanently.
Four-pound increments are unusually good for the range. That is a 12.5% jump at the bottom and a 4% jump at the top, which is finer than the typical 5 lb steps on cheap fixed dumbbells and much finer than what most adjustables of this size offer.
The 32 mm contoured TPR grip is the right pick for these weights. TPR is comfortable barehanded and forgiving on high-rep work; the knurled stainless grips on the heavier PowerBlocks exist because 100 lb needs bite, and 32 lb does not.
Urethane over the plates keeps the noise down and the floor unmarked, which matters more on a dumbbell you will use in a room where other people live.
The magnetic selector pin is the same mechanism as the rest of the range — quick to change, and seated positively enough that you can feel when it is in.
