Choose this one if

  • You want heavy leg work with nothing loading your spine
  • Your lower back gives out before your legs do
  • You have 79 by 36.6 inches of floor to give permanently

The detail

A leg press takes the spine out of leg training entirely. Under a squat your lower back carries the load in compression, and for a lot of people that is what fails first — well before the quads. A leg press loads the legs and nothing else, which makes it the highest-value machine for anyone whose back is the limiting factor. It is also the safest way to train legs to failure alone.

A 1,000 lb capacity is real headroom, and worth having: leg press numbers run high, and a machine rated at 600 becomes a ceiling faster than you expect.

The 60 lb starting weight is the number to check at the other end. That is what the carriage weighs unloaded, and it is your effective minimum. For most people irrelevant; for rehab or a beginner it is the whole range.

Not isolateral, which Powertec states plainly. Both legs push one platform, so a stronger side can quietly carry more of the load — the same limitation a barbell has. Machines that split the platform expose that; this one does not.

At 258 lb and 79 inches long this is furniture. Six and a half feet of floor, permanently, and it is not moving once placed. That is the honest cost of a leg press and the reason most home gyms do without one.

No accessories are available for it, so what you buy is what it does. Compare Powertec's Roller Smith Machine, which does take attachments.

Plate-loaded rather than selectorised means you use the plates you already own — and it means the weight-change time is the same as loading a bar.
