Choose this one if
- You want a rack that arrives complete rather than a frame plus a shopping list
- Your working weights are comfortably under 700 lb
- You want the option of a Smith machine or cable stack later, from one ecosystem
The detail
REP's 4000 and 5000 series racks are configurators — you pick uprights, depth, crossmembers, and a dozen attachments. The Altitude exists because that is exhausting. It arrives with sandwich J-cups, a multi-grip pull-up bar, flip-down safeties and four pairs of weight horns included, which on a PR-4000 would be four separate line items.
The trade is stated plainly in REP's own comparison: 2x2 inch 14-gauge uprights and a 700 lb rack capacity, against the 4000 and 5000 series' 3x3 inch 11-gauge and 1,000 lb. That is the honest boundary. Seven hundred pounds covers the training of nearly everyone who will ever buy a home rack, and it is the number to check yourself against before choosing on convenience.
Eighty-three inches is a deliberate middle height, three inches taller than the 4000 and 5000 series' 80. REP's reasoning is more usable space inside and a better pull-up bar height without an oversized footprint — and in practice three inches is the difference between chin-over-bar and folding your legs. Check your ceiling: 83 inches plus your head needs a genuine 8-foot room.
The ecosystem is closed and REP says so. Altitude attachments — Smith machine, cable attachment, strap safeties, leg roller, drop-in dip — fit the Altitude. 4000 and 5000 series attachments are not cross-compatible. That is the cost of the simplicity: you are committing to one line.
Two practical notes REP volunteers. There are no levelling feet, so an uneven garage slab will need shimming. And bolting down is optional with built-in bolt plates — hardware not included — but on a 14-gauge rack it is worth doing, particularly if you hang anything from it.
The seven upright colours are unusual and, in a room you look at every day, not nothing.
