Choose this one if
- You want the 20 kg Colorado’s feel in a bar your hands can close around
- You are buying a second bar so two people can train without stripping plates
- You want dual knurl marks rather than a bar committed to one discipline
The detail
This is the 20 kg Colorado with the shaft taken from 28.5 mm to 25 mm and the length from 86.6 to 79.1 inches. Everything that makes the bigger bar good carries over unchanged: volcano knurl, dual IPF and IWF marks, no centre knurl, composite bushings, a 1,500 lb static rating.
The 25 mm shaft is the whole reason to choose it, and it is not really about the five kilos. Grip is what limits pulling far more often than back or legs, and a bar you cannot fully close your hand around costs reps that have nothing to do with strength. This is the same argument the Bells of Steel Juno makes — though the Juno is the cheaper bar and this one has the better knurl.
Volcano knurl matters more on a thin bar than a thick one. A 25 mm shaft gives you less surface to hold, so grip texture does more work; volcano grips without being as abrasive as a hill knurl, which is the right trade when your hands are already at a disadvantage.
The costs are dimensional. A 12.4 inch loadable sleeve is nearly four inches shorter per side than the 20 kg version's 16.1, so you run out of bar sooner with wide bumpers — pair it with thin plates if you load heavy. And at 79.1 inches it can sit awkwardly in J-cups spaced for an 86 inch bar, so check your rack before ordering.
