The detail
This is the fixed-handle version of REP's Open Trap Bar, and the difference is a genuine fork rather than a price tier. Welded handles mean the setup never changes — no bolts to check, nothing to work loose, and the bar you picked up last week is the bar you pick up today. That is why it exists for commercial floors, and it is a real argument at home too if you would rather not own four sets of handles.
The handle choice is the decision to make carefully, because it is permanent. The 28 mm straight option mirrors a barbell: comfortable, familiar, and it keeps your grip from being the limiting factor when you want to move weight. The 28/38 mm hybrid gives you a standard side and a thick side, so the same bar trains grip on demand. If your forearms already fail before your back on pulls, the hybrid is the more useful bar; if you want to deadlift heavy without thinking about it, take the 28.
The open frame is the reason to buy any of these over a closed hexagon. You walk into it from behind rather than stepping over it, which unlocks lunges, split squats, carries, rows and presses — and the load still sits in line with your centre of gravity, which is what makes a trap bar deadlift easier on the lower back than a conventional pull.
Two sleeve lengths — Rackable and Compact — is the second choice, and it is about your room rather than your lifting. The Rackable version sits in a standard 47-inch REP rack; Compact is shorter for tight spaces. Both hold ten 45 lb iron plates or five bumpers per side, so capacity is not the difference.
Aluminium handles with volcano medium knurl is a considered combination: volcano grips without tearing, and aluminium keeps the bar's own weight down where the handles are furthest from the sleeves.
