Choose this one if
- You want a Monster Lite cage and get to pick the height and depth
- Your ceiling rules out a 90-inch rack and 80 inches will fit
- You want the 3x3 attachment ecosystem without a six-post footprint
The detail
Two heights and two depths is what makes this the flexible Monster Lite cage. 80.375 or 90.375 inches tall, 30 or 36 inches deep. The 80-inch option is the one that matters most — it fits under a ceiling where a 90-inch rack simply will not stand, which in a finished basement is the difference between having a rack and not.
Depth is the other decision. Thirty inches is enough to squat and bench in and tight for anything involving movement inside the cage; 36 gives you room to rack-pull and to set a bench up with attachments installed. If you have the floor, take the 36.
3x3 inch 11-gauge steel with 5/8-inch hardware is the Monster Lite standard, and it is the practical reason to buy Rogue. The attachment ecosystem built around it is the deepest in the industry — J-cups, safeties, lever arms, lat attachments, storage, and third-party parts too. Whatever you want in three years probably already exists.
At 265 lb this is substantially lighter than the six-post RML-690 at 530 lb, and correspondingly cheaper and smaller: a 34 or 40 by 53 inch footprint against 80 by 53. For a home gym this is usually the right size and the 690 is the buy-once option.
Rogue's own description places the RML-390 as the combination of the RM-3 Monster Rack's 3x3 construction with Monster Lite's 5/8-inch hardware — the heavier steel at the lighter hardware standard.
Rogue does not publish a weight capacity in the Gear Specs for this listing. For a rack you intend to load heavily that is worth asking for in writing, even though 3x3 11-gauge is not the kind of construction that leaves you guessing.
Compare the RML-390F, which is the flat-foot version of the same rack.
