Choose this one if

  • You want a compact adjustable dumbbell that starts genuinely light
  • You want the dumbbell physically smaller at light weights
  • You want a twist mechanism rather than a pin or a screw

The detail

The dumbbell's length changes with the weight, and that is the notable thing here. At 5 lb it is 9.3 inches long; at 50 lb it is 14.5. Most adjustables — PowerBlock, BowFlex — stay the same size at every setting, so a 10 lb selection is a full-size dumbbell with most of the weight left in the tray. Here the light settings are physically small, which for lateral raises and rehab work feels much more like a real light dumbbell.

The twist handle is a third mechanism alongside BowFlex's dial and PowerBlock's pin. You rotate the handle to select, and the dual-sided window shows the weight from either end — which sounds trivial until you have picked up an adjustable dumbbell without checking and been surprised.

Five-pound increments are coarse, and the honest weakness. From 5 to 10 lb is a 100% jump; PowerBlock's Pro 50 does the same range in 2.5 lb steps. If you press light and want to progress, that matters.

A 2-year parts warranty is short for an adjustable dumbbell — against 5 years residential on a PowerBlock and lifetime on an Ironmaster. On a product whose whole value is a mechanism, warranty is the number that tells you what the maker expects of it.

Aluminium weight cradles rather than plastic is the right material where the plates rest and get lifted out of.

The stand is included in the assembled dimensions — 22 by 33.5 by 31.9 inches — which is the footprint to plan for, not the dumbbell's own.
