Choose this one if

  • You bench heavy and want a pad that will not slide under you
  • You want to choose between competition and wide pad width
  • You want a 1,000 lb rating on a bench with no moving parts

The detail

The pad choice is the decision here. Twelve inches is IPF competition width and the right answer if you compete — train on what you will lift on. Fourteen and a half is wider than competition and gives more surface under your shoulder blades, which some people find more stable and others find props their shoulders up and blocks retraction. If you are unsure, take the 12.

Four inches of pad is unusually thick, and Fringe pairs it with heavy-duty non-slip vinyl, which is the more important half of that spec. A slick pad under a heavy bench means your shirt slides on the vinyl and your back slides on your shirt, and the arch you set up disappears somewhere around the third rep. A grippy cover fixes that at the surface rather than asking the foam to do it.

A 1,000 lb rating on a flat bench is not marketing — that is bar plus lifter, and the reason flat benches carry higher numbers than adjustables is that there is no hinge, no ladder, and no pop-pin to be the weak link.

At 17.5 inches high and 48 inches end to end this is standard geometry, and 67.7 lb is on the heavy side of portable — you can shift it, you will not want to do it every day.

The warranty splits five years on the frame and one on the padding, which is a more honest breakdown than a blanket "lifetime" that quietly excludes upholstery. Padding is the part that wears.
