Choose this one if
- You train alone with no one to unpin a failed rep
- You have a 3x3 rack and want a rigid catch rather than straps
- You want plastic between your bar and the steel
The detail
If you train alone, safeties are the most important thing you will bolt to a rack. Everything else makes training better; these make it survivable. A failed squat with nothing under the bar is the accident that ends home training.
Spotter arms differ from strap safeties in one important way: they are rigid. Steel arms catch the bar exactly where you set them with no give, which means a shorter drop and a predictable position — useful for pin presses and rack pulls where you want the bar to stop at a defined height. Straps absorb the impact and are quieter; arms are more precise and take more load.
At 1,000 lb per pair this matches the strongest strap safeties here and covers any squat or bench a home lifter will attempt.
The UHMW plastic facing is the detail that matters day to day. A bar landing on bare steel chips its own finish and, over months, flattens the knurl at the contact point. UHMW is the same material used on rack J-cups for the same reason. It also means a lot less noise.
Twenty-two and a half inches of usable length with a 1-inch lip is enough to catch a bar anywhere in a normal squat path without the bar rolling off the front. The lip is not optional on a spotter arm and it is worth confirming a product has one.
Fitment is 3x3 uprights, the de facto standard — this fits the Osprey and most 3x3 racks. It does not fit the 2x2 Garage Series cage or a 2x3 T-3. Check the hole size too.
At 20 lb each these are substantial. Hanging them is a two-hand job, which is also why you leave them on the rack rather than carrying them in and out.
