Choose this one if

  • You have a 3x3 rack with spare upright space
  • You want plates stored where you load the bar, not across the room
  • You want to add plate storage one peg at a time

The detail

The best place to store plates is on the rack, because that is where you load them. A plate tree across the room means carrying every plate twice; a peg on the upright means sliding it off the peg and onto the bar without moving your feet.

Fourteen inches of storage length is generous — that is roughly four bumpers or eight or nine iron plates per peg, against the 10.5 inches on PRX's freestanding tree. Combined with the 220 lb rating, one peg holds a meaningful fraction of a plate set.

Note the peg diameter: 1.75 inches, not the 2-inch Olympic sleeve standard. Plates slide on and off more easily as a result, and they will have a little play on the peg. That is normal and correct for storage, where you want quick access rather than a snug fit.

Being sold singly is the real advantage over a tree. Buy one, see how much it holds, buy two more — and put them at the height that suits you rather than wherever the manufacturer welded them. Weight horns high on an upright also add mass at the top of a rack, which helps stability on a rack you have not bolted down; the Fringe Osprey at 110 lb benefits noticeably from that.

Fitment is 3x3 uprights, which is the de facto industry standard and covers the Osprey and most 3x3 racks from other brands. It will not fit a 2x3 T-3 or the 2.3-inch Bells of Steel residential rack.

One year of warranty on a welded steel peg is short and largely academic — there is nothing on it to fail.
