Choose this one if
- You walk and jog rather than run intervals
- You want the treadmill folded away between sessions
- You want 15 incline levels for walking hills
The detail
A 2.5 HP continuous-duty motor and an 11 mph top speed places this treadmill clearly: it is a walking and jogging machine. Continuous duty is the honest rating — it is what the motor sustains, not a peak figure — and 2.5 HP is adequate for walking and light jogging by someone under 200 lb, and working hard for a heavier runner.
Fifteen incline levels is the more interesting specification. Incline walking is one of the most useful forms of low-impact conditioning there is, and a 650 lb lift motor moves the deck reliably. If your plan is hills rather than speed, the motor rating matters much less.
The 56-inch belt is the number to check against your stride. Twenty by 56 inches is fine for walking; a running stride wants 60 inches, which is what LifeSpan's TR5500iM and TR6000i provide. If you intend to run, this belt is short.
Eight independent compression shocks and a 3/4-inch phenolic deck with a brace is the suspension. Deck give is what saves your knees over years of walking, and it is the thing cheap treadmills omit.
Folding is the practical reason to choose this over a fixed treadmill. It goes from 70 inches of floor to 39, standing 63 inches tall, on four transport wheels. At 221 lb it is still a serious object to move.
A 10-year frame warranty with 2 years parts and 1 year labour is a strong frame term. Note the power requirement: a 115V non-GFI circuit — LifeSpan warns explicitly against a GFI outlet, which will trip.
