Choose this one if
- The treadmill will run for hours a day, or by several people
- You want an AC motor rather than DC
- You have the floor to leave it up permanently
The detail
An AC motor rather than DC is the specification that defines this machine. Home treadmills use DC motors; commercial ones use AC. AC motors run cooler under sustained load, hold speed more consistently, and last longer when the machine is used for hours rather than a 30-minute session. That is why 3.5 HP AC here is not a downgrade from the 4.0 HP DC on the TR5500iM — it is a different and more durable kind of power.
Three-inch front rollers are the other commercial detail. Larger rollers reduce belt tension and wrap angle, which extends belt and bearing life considerably. The home models use 2.5-inch fronts.
Aluminium side rails rather than plastic is the third: they take years of being stepped on and grabbed without cracking.
The trade is that it does not fold. Seventy-four and a half by 35 inches of floor, permanently, on two front transport wheels. If your treadmill has to disappear between sessions, the TR5500iM is the same belt and deck in a folding frame.
Three decline levels — one more than the TR5500iM — plus 13 incline. Downhill running is specific training for hilly courses and loads the quads in a way nothing else on a treadmill does.
A 22 by 60 inch belt is a genuine running deck, unlike the 20 by 56 on the TR1200i and TR3000i.
Ten years on the frame, 2 years parts, 1 year labour — the same terms as the home models, which is worth noting given the commercial billing.
LifeSpan does not publish the product weight, which for a machine this size is worth asking about before planning delivery.
