Choose this one if
- You are starting out and 3 lb jumps are the right size of step
- You want dumbbells that genuinely disappear when not in use
- Your dumbbell work is high-rep, accessory and conditioning
The detail
Three to 24 pounds is a beginner's range and PowerBlock says so. That is not a criticism — three-pound increments are exactly right when 6 lb is a working weight for lateral raises, and a beginner who has to jump from 5 to 10 lb has no usable middle. Eight settings across that span is a lot of resolution.
It is also useful past the beginner stage for the work that is genuinely light: rear delts, external rotations, rehab, high-rep finishers. Plenty of people with a 300 lb bench own a pair of 15s.
At 10 by 5.5 by 5.5 inches this is the smallest product here, and small enough that storage stops being a question. That is the practical case for it over a pair of fixed dumbbells: not the weight range, the fact that eight weights occupy one shoebox.
The finish is grey powder coat rather than the urethane on the Pro 32 and the heavier blocks. Powder coat is harder-wearing against scuffs and less forgiving to your floor — these are lighter, so the consequences are smaller, but do not set them down on hardwood carelessly.
Contoured TPR at 32 mm is the right grip for this range. It is comfortable barehanded on high-rep work, which is what these will actually do.
Three colours — grey, light blue, lavender — which is worth mentioning only because equipment that lives in a living room gets judged differently from equipment that lives in a garage.
The ceiling is fixed. If you expect to want 40 lb within the year, start with the Pro 32 or the Pro 100 EXP instead of replacing these.
