Choose this one if
- You have stalled on a press and need a jump smaller than a change plate
- You want to add weight without unloading the bar
- You train in kilograms
The detail
Fractionals solve the problem that appears above the level change plates fix. Change plates take a press from 5 lb jumps to 2.5. Fractionals take it to half a kilo on the bar, or less. On a press that has stalled twice, that is the difference between progressing and deloading.
The thickness figures are the practical headline: 0.25 inches for a 0.25 kg plate, rising to 0.75 inches at 1 kg. PRX's own framing is the right one — the plates are thin enough that you do not have to take the collar off the bar to add them. On a superset or a quick jump between sets, that is the difference between using your fractionals and leaving them in a drawer.
Colour coding across four weights — white, green, blue, red — matters more on fractionals than on bumpers. Four small discs of similar size are genuinely hard to tell apart in a pile at your feet, and by the fourth set you are grabbing rather than measuring.
These are metric: 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 kg. If you train and log in pounds, that is a real consideration — a pair of 0.5 kg plates is 2.2 lb on the bar, which is a slightly awkward number to program around. Bells of Steel's fractional iron plates are imperial.
The 2-inch bore fits any Olympic sleeve.
PRX does not publish a weight tolerance or a material for these plates. Tolerance is the specification that matters most on a fractional — a 0.25 kg plate that is not accurate is a rounding error rather than an increment. Ask.
