Choose this one if

  • Your ceiling is under 8 feet and no normal rack will fit
  • You need the floor clear between sessions
  • You want 1,000 lb of capacity in a space that cannot take a cage

The detail

Seventy-eight inches is the number that makes this rack exist. That is a basement with low joists, a converted room with a dropped ceiling, or a garage with a door track in the way — spaces where every other rack on this site, folding or not, simply does not fit. The 73-inch uprights are what buy that.

Folded up it is 9 inches deep with the J-cups attached, which is less than a bookshelf. Folded down it occupies 26.75 inches. In a room that has to be a room again after you train, that is the whole argument.

The capacity is not reduced to get there: 1,000 lb on 11-gauge 3x3 steel, the same as the full-height CORE. This is a short rack, not a weak one.

What you give up is pull-ups. At 73 inches there is no pull-up bar and no room for one — that is the honest cost, and in a 78-inch room you were not doing pull-ups anyway.

You also give up rack height for tall lifters. Seventy-three inches of upright is enough to squat and bench from, and if you are tall the J-cup at the top of the range may be close to your limit. Check your rack-out height against it.

The wall does the work. Brackets mount to 16 or 24-inch on-centre studs, and PRX notes that uneven spacing needs a ledger board. Confirm what your wall is made of before ordering.

Two heavy-duty J-cups are included. Hole spacing is 2 inches on the front and 4 on the side — adequate for setting squat and bench heights, less fine than a 1-inch bench zone.
