Choose this one if

  • You squat and bench inside a PR-5000 rack and train alone
  • You want safeties that fold up out of the way rather than come off
  • You want a positive twist-to-lock rather than a plain pop-pin

The detail

In-rack safeties are the baseline safety equipment for anyone who lifts alone, and flip-down ones solve the problem that stops people using safeties at all: they stay on the rack. Pin-and-pipe safeties get pulled out to make room for something else and never go back in. These fold up against the upright.

Drop-tested to 1,000 lb rather than statically rated is the right claim — a missed squat arrives with more force than the bar's weight, and a number derived from actually dropping weight means more than one derived from a calculation.

The twist-to-lock pin is the substantive change in the 2.0. A plain pop-pin holds by spring pressure and can be left half-seated; a pin you pull and turn a quarter turn engages positively, and you can feel when it has. On the part standing between you and a loaded bar, that is worth having.

Top and bottom moulded liners is the other upgrade. Most safeties protect the bar on the way down; liners on both faces also protect the rack's finish where the safety bears against the upright, which is where a rack develops its first rust.

Installation needs both hands and no tools, and they ship assembled. REP recommends two people for initial assembly, which is sensible advice for anything you will subsequently trust with a loaded bar.

Fitment is specific: PR-5000 racks with 30 or 41 inches between the uprights. Not the PR-4000, not the Altitude. And note the Smith machine exception — if yours is installed inside the rack, these are not compatible.

If you would rather lift outside the cage, the Spotter Arms 2.0 are the other half of the same system.
