Choose this one if
- You want a safety squat bar you can actually load heavy without running out of sleeve
- A shoulder or wrist stops you racking a straight bar
- You want a pronounced camber, which makes the bar work your upper back harder
The detail
The 16 inch loadable sleeve is the number that separates this from most safety squat bars, including the Bells of Steel SS4 at 11.81. That is more than four extra inches per side — the difference between running out of bar at four plates and having room for six. On a bar specifically bought for heavy squatting, that matters.
The 22-degree camber is pronounced. Camber is what makes a safety squat bar a different training stimulus rather than a comfort item: it drives the load forward and down, so your upper back fights to keep you upright. More camber means more of that effect, and most people find their first sessions humbling at weights they squat easily with a straight bar.
The 38 mm shaft is thick even by safety-bar standards, and pairs with a 1,500 lb capacity — matching the SS4 despite the longer sleeves. The 49 mm sleeve diameter is a shade under the 50 mm standard, which means plates slide on easily rather than binding.
Handle geometry is worth checking against your build. Grip spacing is 12.75 inches with 32 mm handles and an 8 inch inside width at the shoulder pad. That is a narrow, fixed position — safety squat bars are not adjustable, and if your shoulders do not suit the spacing there is nothing to change.
At 90.5 inches overall it is longer than a standard barbell, which matters for rack width and for storage. It will not fit a bar holder sized for a 86 inch bar.
