Choose this one if
- You bench flat and are not going to start inclining
- You want an 11-gauge frame under you rather than the lightest bench available
- You want the competition 12-inch pad width
The detail
Twelve inches is the IPF competition pad width, and if you compete or intend to, training on anything else means the bench under you on the platform will feel foreign. That is the strongest single reason to pick this bench over a wider or tapered one.
The frame is 2x2 inch, 11-gauge steel — genuinely heavy tube for a flat bench, and where the 880 lb rating and the 64 lb weight both come from. Compare the Bells of Steel flat bench at 37.9 lb on 14-gauge: lighter to move, thinner steel, and slightly less capacity. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions.
At 17.5 inches the pad height is half an inch above the usual 17, which suits taller lifters and slightly disadvantages short ones. If you already struggle to plant your feet flat, measure before you order.
Two and a quarter inches of foam is on the thicker side for a flat bench. Thick pads compress under a heavy press, and compression costs you the stable shoulder platform you set up so carefully. It is comfortable; the Pro Powerlift with its firmer setup is the more serious pressing surface.
Note the warranty: one year, against the lifetime frame coverage on Fringe's Falcon and on most Bells of Steel benches. On a welded flat bench with no hinge there is very little to fail, so this is less alarming than it looks — but it is a real difference.
Assembly is required, which for a flat bench means bolting the pad to the frame.
