  • You want a folding treadmill for walking and jogging

The detail

The TR3000i is the TR1200i with three upgrades that all matter and none of which are the belt.

The 350 lb user rating against 300 is the first, and for anyone near the limit it is the whole decision. Treadmill ratings are not conservative; running puts several times bodyweight through the deck on every step.

A 1-inch phenolic deck rather than 3/4-inch with a brace is the second. Deck thickness is what gives underfoot and what saves your knees over years of walking, and a solid 1-inch deck is a better answer than a thinner one propped up by a brace.

The motor goes from 2.5 to 2.75 HP continuous duty and the top speed from 11 to 12 mph, which is the least interesting difference — both are walking-and-jogging machines rather than running machines.

The belt stays at 20 by 56 inches, and that is the thing to check. Fifty-six inches suits a walking stride; a genuine running stride wants 60, which is what the TR5500iM and TR6000i offer at 22 by 60. If you intend to run, do not buy this belt length whatever the motor says.

Fifteen incline levels on an 800 lb lift motor is a genuinely useful range — incline walking is the most joint-friendly conditioning most people have access to.

Folded it goes to 42 by 33 inches at 56 inches tall, on four transport wheels. At 225 lb it moves, with effort.

Ten years on the frame with 2 years parts and 1 year labour. Note the power requirement: a 115V non-GFI circuit, and LifeSpan warns a GFI outlet will trip.
