Choose this one if
- You want the best raw knurl feel available and will maintain the bar
- You want a do-everything 28.5 mm bar with no centre knurl
- You train somewhere dry, or you enjoy the ritual of oiling a bar
The detail
Bare steel on both shaft and sleeves is the entire decision here. Every coating — chrome, Cerakote, zinc, oxide — sits between your hand and the knurl and dulls it slightly. Bare steel does not. It is the sharpest, most direct grip Rogue sells, and it is the reason serious lifters keep buying bare bars despite what comes next.
What comes next is rust. A bare steel bar in a humid garage will develop surface oxidation within weeks if left alone, and once rust is in the knurl it stays. This is a bar you wipe down after sessions and oil periodically. If that sounds like a chore rather than a ritual, the Ohio Freedom Bar is the Cerakote version of the same geometry and the Hybrid Power Bar is the maintenance-free stainless option.
Underneath, the specification is Rogue's standard multipurpose recipe: 28.5 mm shaft, 190,000 PSI, dual knurl marks, no centre knurl, bushings, F8-R on their whip scale. It squats, benches, presses and cleans competently, and specialises in nothing.
The 16.50-inch loadable sleeve is a shade longer than the Ohio Bar's 16.40, which is generous either way — that is six 45 lb iron plates per side with room to spare.
Bare steel sleeves are the less common half. Most "bare" bars pair a bare shaft with chrome sleeves, since sleeves take plate abrasion. Here both are bare, so the maintenance extends to the whole bar.
