Choose this one if
- You train alone and need something under the bar on every set
- You are tired of the noise a dropped bar makes on steel pins
- You want safeties that fold out of the way rather than coming off the rack
The detail
Strap safeties do the same job as steel pins and do it more gently. Nylon webbing gives when a loaded bar lands on it, which absorbs the drop instead of transmitting it — quieter for the household, easier on the bar's knurl, and less violent for the rack. If you have ever dumped a squat onto steel pins in a garage at 6am, this is the upgrade.
Twenty-seven inches of strap length across a 31-inch arm is enough to catch a bar anywhere in a normal squat or bench path. The 2-inch strap width is what determines how the load spreads across the bar when it lands.
The 800 lb rating is per pair, and it is the number to check against your lifts. That is above what almost anyone squats, and it is the T-3 figure — the X-3 version is rated 1,000 lb per pair, with a 3-inch strap on a 4-inch arm.
Compatibility is the thing to get right before ordering. These fit 2 x 3 inch uprights with 11/16-inch holes, which is the T-3 Series pattern and also many other brands' 2x3 racks. They will not fit the 3x3 X-3 line or the 26 mm TITAN Series holes.
Hitch-pin mounting and a fold-up design means they stay on the rack between sessions rather than being carried in and out, which is the difference between safeties you use and safeties in a corner.
At 51 lb for the pair they are not light — that is steel arms, not just webbing. Hanging them is a two-hand job.
