Choose this one if

  • Your arch collapses because your shirt slides on the bench
  • You compete, or train to competition pad width
  • You want a 1,000 lb rating at 62 lb of bench

The detail

The grip fabric is the whole product, and it addresses a real failure. A slick vinyl pad means your shirt slides on the pad and your back slides on your shirt — so the arch and the tight upper back you set up so carefully migrate somewhere around the third rep. Fringe's answer is a high-friction fabric rather than vinyl, which fixes it at the surface instead of asking the foam to do it.

The PRX Razortooth uses "Sharkskin PVC" for the same reason. It is one of the few bench specifications that changes how a set actually feels.

Twelve inches is the IPF competition pad width. If you compete, train on 12 — the platform bench will feel foreign otherwise. Narrow also lets your shoulder blades hang off the edges and retract, which is what a tight press needs.

A 1,000 lb rating on an 11-gauge base at 62 lb is a good ratio. Flat benches out-rate adjustable ones because there is no hinge — compare the Fringe flat bench at 880 lb and 64 lb, and the Pro Powerlift at 1,000 lb and 67.7 lb.

At 62 lb it is portable enough to move in and out of a rack without it becoming a chore.

Fringe does not publish the bench height, length, pad thickness or a warranty term on this listing. Height is the one that matters most — 17 inches is competition, and a bench an inch either side changes whether you can plant your feet. Ask before ordering.

Fabric is also worth thinking about long-term: high-friction fabric grips better than vinyl and is generally less wipeable, which in a shared gym is a consideration.
