Choose this one if

  • Your gym has to become a room again after every session
  • You want a competition 12-inch pad in a bench that stores flat
  • You bench flat and are not going to start inclining

The detail

Seven and a half inches folded is the product. The legs hinge and lock with detent pins, so a bench that stands 17 inches tall in use becomes a flat panel you can slide under a rack, behind a door, or against a wall. In a room that has to be a room again, that is the difference between owning a bench and stepping over one.

Compare the PRX Compact Flat Weight Bench, which folds to 7 inches and hangs on a wall mount but rates 660 lb; and Rogue's own Flat Utility Bench 2.0, which is the same 47 by 14 inch footprint and 12-inch pad without the hinge.

Seventeen inches is the competition bench height, which is the right number and one inch lower than the Flat Utility 2.0's 18. If you are shorter, that inch is the difference between planting your feet and reaching for the floor.

A 47 by 12 inch pad is competition width. Narrow lets your shoulder blades retract off the edges; wide props them up and presses worse.

Rogue lists the pad thickness as "varies", and does not publish a weight capacity or bench weight in the Gear Specs. Both are worth getting in writing, and capacity matters more here than on a welded bench — hinged legs held by detent pins are a mechanism, and a mechanism is where a folding bench's rating comes from.

Two-by-three inch 11-gauge steel is proper tube, and the same material as the non-folding version — so you are paying for the hinge rather than accepting thinner steel for it.
