Choose this one if

  • You train alone and want something under the bar every set
  • You want the drop absorbed rather than transmitted to the rack and bar
  • You have a Monster Lite rack

The detail

Strap safeties do the same job as steel pins and do it more gently. Nylon gives when a loaded bar lands on it, so the drop is absorbed instead of transmitted — quieter for the household, easier on the bar's knurl, and less violent for the rack. If you have ever dumped a squat onto steel pins in a garage at 6am, this is the upgrade.

"Rated for over 10,000 lb" is the strap material's rating, not a working load limit for the assembly, and it is worth reading that way. The brackets and the 0.625-inch pin are what actually carry the load into the rack, and Rogue does not publish a system rating in the Gear Specs. Ask for the working load figure before assuming the 10,000 lb number applies to a dropped bar. For context, the strap safeties covered here elsewhere are rated 800 to 1,000 lb per pair — which is already far beyond what anyone squats.

Three inches of strap width is wide, and width is what determines how a landing load spreads across the bar. Titan's X-3 strap safeties use 3-inch straps at a 1,000 lb rating; the T-3 version uses 2-inch at 800 lb.

Formed steel brackets at 0.3125 inches thick is proper material rather than folded sheet, and it is the part most likely to deform if anything does.

Pick the width to match your rack's depth: 43, 30 or 24 inches. Get this right at order time — a strap that does not span your rack is useless, and one sized for a deeper rack will hang slack.

Monster Lite compatible, which means Rogue's 3x3 uprights with 5/8-inch holes — including the RML-390C, RML-690 and SML-2.
